December 12, 2024 Burlington, ON – Today, Re-Imagine Ontario is proud to share it is the recipient of a Fall 2024 grant from the Burlington Foundation’s Community Fund. The grant will help to expand our GAME program which is our youth initiative tailored for young males aged 10-17 who might benefit from paternal or peer guidance. This new program harnesses the power of sports and outdoor activities, to provide a dynamic environment where participants can grow under the mentorship of positive male role models.

Monica Smith, Interim Executive Director says

“This grant from the Burlington Foundation is really appreciated and so well needed to help kickstart our new G.A.M.E. program.  This new initiative will provide vulnerable young men aged 10-17 with essential paternal and fraternal mentorship through group sports and outdoor activities, that we hope will make positive changes in their lives. We again sincerely thank the Burlington Foundation for their generosity”

“We are truly inspired by the work and missions of these incredible organizations,” says Megan Tregunno, CEO of the Burlington Foundation. “Re-Imagine Ontario is one of 33 organizations selected that are contributing to creating a strong sense of belonging in our community. Resources from the Burlington Community Fund are especially significant because the Fund is made up contributions from community donors and residents who care deeply about helping others,” says Tregunno.

The Burlington Foundation’s annual granting program provides grants through its Burlington Community Fund – a dedicated unrestricted endowment Fund established to support the greatest needs of our community.  For the Fall 2024 granting round, community organizations were eligible to apply for a grant up to $20,000.

In a significant development, the local charity organization, RE-IMAGINE ONTARIO, recently received a grant from the esteemed Trillium Foundation. This grant will play a pivotal role in supporting their mission to redefine and enhance support systems for mental health, education, and employment among underserved/at-risk youth and isolated seniors in the Halton region, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grant Appreciation Event

On Tuesday, July 18th at 11:00 a.m., the Grant Appreciation Event took place at the Black Box Theatre, located at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCC). The event brought together RE-IMAGINE ONTARIO and local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), Stephen Crawford, to express gratitude for the Trillium Foundation’s support. The presence of an Ontario Trillium Foundation volunteer further emphasized the collaborative efforts towards achieving the organization’s goals.

The Impact of the Grant

During the event, Maria Zegarac, Board Chair of RE-IMAGINE ONTARIO, and Monica Smith, Acting Executive Director, highlighted the significance of the grant and its potential impact on the community. The funding received will empower the organization to implement innovative strategies and programs, addressing the specific challenges faced by underserved youth and isolated seniors following the traumatic experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Building a Stronger Future

RE-IMAGINE ONTARIO envisions an inclusive future where mental health, education, and employment opportunities are accessible to all members of the community. The Trillium grant provides vital support in making this vision a reality. Through collaboration and engagement with the community, the charity aims to create sustainable positive change, promoting the well-being and sense of belonging for vulnerable individuals.

Reflections on the Grant Appreciation Event

Attendees, including community members, stakeholders, and supporters, gathered to learn more about RE-IMAGINE ONTARIO’s transformative work and the next steps in their journey. Although the event has concluded, the spirit of collaboration and the commitment to making a difference continue to guide the organization.

Conclusion

RE-IMAGINE ONTARIO’s receipt of the Trillium grant marks a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to uplift the lives of underserved youth and isolated seniors. By redefining support systems for mental health, education, and employment, the organization aims to make a lasting impact in the Halton region. Let us stand behind their cause, supporting their transformative journey towards a stronger, more resilient community. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.
